Final results of the CoMMUTe project presented in MCG mind for metal

CoMMUTE – Multifunction Modular Train Floor project is an initiative of the consortium MCG mind for metal, Amorim Cork Composites, ITeCons and Critical Materials, supported by COMPETE 2020 – Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização no âmbito do Sistema de Incentivos à Investigação e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico. The main objective was to develop a…

…prototype for a modular and multifunctional heated floor for the interior of intercity and regional train.

 

At the official session at MCG mind for metal were all the project managers from each company that take part in the consortium as well as several business partners and all the MCG’s technicians and collaborators involved…

…in the process, from development to production.

 

By taking part in the project, MCG mind for metal strengthens several technological partnerships that impact on the railway market and help the development of recycled synthetic cores for the application in flooring systems, reinforcing product design and solutions.

 

On the other hand,

…target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Amorim Cork Composites consolidates the good references of durability, technical and natural performance of its materials for the composition of the core of the application, while Critical Materials reinforces the entrance in the railroad market with technology that can be integrated by third parties.

…href=”http://www.itecons.uc.pt/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>ITeCons extends its partnership with MCG mind for metal for programs, tests and technical simulations – implemented during the project – in the area of railway flooring systems.

 

The CoMMUTe project triggered 21 coordination meetings, a submitted patent and the creation of three prototypes and conceptual mockups. This included over…

…5,000 hours of structural modelling and calculation, 770 hours of development and design of the manufacturing facilities, 2,500 hours of electronic assembly and 1,270 hours of manufacturing of the various prototypes. There were 25 operational technicians involved in 356 tests, in which 15 new methods and three new equipment were used.
