MCG Transportation guarantees the production of a new train heated floor project

MCG transportation will produce the heated floor systems for 138 carriages of Alstom Coradia Stream trains that CFL will put into circulation in Luxembourg from 2021.

Starting in 2020 (and continuing production through 2024), the project includes the production of single and double-decker carriage floors and is based on the new heated…

…floor technology developed by MCG transportation teams.

The system is based in ready-to-install, quick-assemble modules designed to meet the most demanding customer needs. This type of floor incorporates underfloor heating, very challenging thermal and acoustic insulation requirements, and connections between the different floor modules developed and designed to ensure a very high…

…level of finish.

These Alstom Coradia trains with MCG transportation floors can reach 160 km/hour and will be put into circulation in Luxembourg by CFL (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois). The trains can be used also in neighboring countries Belgium and France.

Results of MAESTRI R&D Project approved by the European Commission

To close the MAESTRI Project with a golden key, the final review meeting of this R&D initiative was attended by evaluators from the European Commission, who proved that the overall objectives of the project were fully achieved by the consortium.

The event took place this October at ISQ (Portuguese Institute for Welding…

…and Quality) and the representatives of the European Commission appreciated and approved the work done over the last four years.

We remind that the MAESTRI Project aims to develop a flexible and scalable management system that promotes good industrial and industry 4.0 management practices.

Implementing the Lean culture and Total Efficiency Framework in…

…the production processes of the MCG industry and MCG transportation business units, MCG was one of four real industrial environments of this European initiative.

The validation of the European Commission focused on the results achieved by the industrial partners in these four pillars:

  • LEAN Management System and presentation of the respective LEAN…

…tools developed by the Lean Institute Poland (LEIP).

  • Eco-efficiency: energy and environmental management systems (INEGI).
  • IoT Platform and Intelligent Sensors: applications and demos in real use environment (MicroProcessor, LINK).
  • Industrial Symbiosis: case studies, business impact, and toolkits to use (Cambridge University).

MCG begins series production of a new train component project

Following a constant growth and business diversification, MCG has started production of a new metal component that integrates the locomotive traction transformer produced by a major world manufacturer.

This is an MCG transportation business division project and consists of the manufacture of a clamping frame system that ensures the correct tightness of…

    …the locomotive traction transformer.

In these production processes, the strong experience of MCG transportation teams in welding of high thickness materials is critical. EN 15085-2 Certified Welding is an important prerequisite for meeting the demanding requirements of the customer.

MCG presents the results of the ModSeat – Modular Light Rail Seat project

MCG and the other members of this R&D consortium presented today at the Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, the results of the ModSeat – Modular Light Rail Seat project, which over the course of several months has been the basis for developing an innovative concept of a seat for regional and…

    …intercity trains.

MCG has coordinated various parts of the project throughout its development, with its R&D team highly involved in the process and in the consortium composed of four other entities: Instituto Superior Técnico, Almadesign, a company in the area of industrial design, SETsa – Sociedade…

…de Engenharia e Transformação SA and ERT, a multinational of the automotive supply chain with industrial facilities in Portugal, Czech Republic and Romania. And the results at now at sight.

As can be seen through the finished prototype that was on display during the event, Modseat is effectively a modular,…

…versatile and customizable seat for trains, based on development and manufacturing processes using new processes and materials.

The project’s main objective is thus achieved: Modseat is prepared to meet future demands for the public transport of its kind. Among other features, it’s lightweight and considerably increases passenger comfort using innovative…

…materials and manufacturing processes, smart solutions and infotainment systems.

On the other hand, it is a fully customizable seat that can be adapted to the customer’s needs and the type/level of service that they want to provide (different classes, markets, and their requirements).
