coMMUTe Project

CoMMUTe – Multifunction Modular Train Floor

The “COMMUTE” project is composed by a consortium that joins four entities – MCG, Amorim Cork Composites, ITeCons and Critical Materials and is supported by “COMPETE 2020 – Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização no âmbito do Sistema de Incentivos à Investigação e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico”.

It has the…

…main objective of developing a prototype for a modular and multifunctional floating floor for the interior of intercity and regional railway transport, where passenger comfort is most important due to the duration of the average trip. COMMUTE’s budget is 761 thousand euros is financed by FEDER in a total of 439…

…thousand euros.

The system that will be developed will present a solution to some of the important challenges to future mobility that will be faced by railway undertakings, such as operational costs and enlarging the client base. In addition to proposing a reduction in the assembly costs and in the total cost…

…of the product, this solution will also guarantee passenger comfort regarding thermal, acoustic and vibrational insulation, without increasing the weight of the solution. The floor will also integrate an intelligent electric heating system that will optimize the temperature gradient and energy consumption of the coach. This system will perform auto diagnosis…

…of failures and will have sensors to gather different types of data relevant for the line operators.

Moreover, the project also analyses durability concepts that are adapted to different realities according to global climate variations and will adopt a modular and flexible approach that will apply fabrication and assembly processes for the…

…reduction of weight, production costs and environmental impact, throughout the entire product life cycle. The final product, its components, system testing and validation are expected to rapidly integrate the product portfolio offered by the consortium entities. The consortium hopes that with this project it may contribute to the consolidation of the…

…national supply of products and services in a market that has seen sustainable growth, expected at the global level until at least 2020 – rail transport.

COMMUTE started in October 2015 and will be present at INNOTRANS 2016 in September 22-24th Read more in www.commute-project.com

MCG continues to invest in Portugal, in the industrial area of Carregado

After acquiring, in 2015, units and land with a gross area of 15,000 m2 that enabled MCG to pursue its expansion process, MCG is now working with Harchi (http://www.harchi.pt/) planning all its road structure, industrial expansion plans and support buildings. In this process of expansion and modernization, MCG seeks to create…

…an environment that promotes innovation, confidence in the future, which is welcoming to its employees and at the same time is sustainable and presents modern lines.

MCG aim’s to maintain its investment in the facilities of Carregado, being a key location in terms of road networks, proximity to Lisbon and there is…

…currently a development of an industrial and logistic cluster. In a small radius around MCG there is proliferation of large industrial and logistics companies that employ thousands of people, including Caetano Coatings, Dura Automotive, EUROCER, Luis Simoes Logistica, Europastry and Matutano.
With the right collaboration between these companies, integrating their services to…

…engage more investors, with the right policies, we believe that Carregado may be a development center with great potential and sustainability.

MCG thinking lightweight

The “LaTch 2” project is composed by a consortium that joins four entities –Moliporex, Cadflow MCG and INEGI is supported by “COMPETE 2020 – Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização no âmbito do Sistema de Incentivos à Investigação e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico”.
It has the main objective of developing a representative case study (prototype…

…part, manufacturing tools and processes) of an innovative composite suspension arm of and electric car. LaTch 2’s budget is 1.2 million euros and is financed by FEDER in a total of 814 thousand euros. The project started in January 2016 and has a duration of 3 years.
LaTch 2 is about lightweight…

…and about exploring one material solutions and technology that will grow in automotive within a 10 years’ time frame – CFRP with thermoplastic matrix. LaTch 2 follows the original LaTch project, and aims to solve some of the roadblocks identified in the first project, focusing in advanced thermoforming and overmoulding processes…

…(TRL 5-7). It will also address the product design phase and existing technology constraints and LaTch 2 it will make a step forward by incorporating metallic inserts in the composite part, thus creating a full hybrid part – metal / composite.
