RER Alstom train floors: a complete and fully plug and play solution
To develop an unheated floor system for installation on the new Alstom regional trains.
Developing the concept and producing a new, non-heated floor for installation on the new regional trains Alstom is producing (in partnership with Bombardier) for SNCF, the largest French railway operator and one of the largest in Europe. The main objectives of the project are to design a light floor, robust, functional and that can be delivered in conditions that reduce the time and the difficulty of installation and assembly.
To ensure lightness and robustness, the solution developed is based on a composite material that combines aluminum and cork. The use of this raw material is an element of added value in the project.
Fully Plug and Play
The floor is supplied in fully plug-and-play conditions, reducing installation time on target structures and increasing assembly efficiency rates.
This non-heated floor system incorporates anti-vibration protection elements as well as all the interfaces necessary for installation in the vehicle and also the ramps for access of users with reduced mobility.
The development of this floor system is based on the extensive experience of the R&D team of the MCG transportation business unit and on the company’s extensive production and supply capacity.
Synergies in development
The success guarantees in the production of the 142 floors for the passenger compartment motivated the adjudication of other 142 units to integrate into the compartment of the driver of the same train.
A project that demonstrates the capabilities of MCG mind for metal as a solution-provider in the competitive railway interior sector, more specifically in the flooring market.

This new floor concept developed by MCG mind for metal, specifically within the MCG transportation business unit – and soon to be produced at the company’s facilities in Carregado –, is intended for integration into the new Alstom regional trains that are going into circulation in 2021 on the outskirts of Paris and other parts of northern France.
This is a business of great importance for MCG mind for metal, as it is the first premium design in the area of floor development and production, and it strongly helps to consolidate the position of the company as a supplier of the Alstom group. It is in this sense that the second award, consisting of another 142 units for the installation in the driver’s compartment of the same regional train produced by Alstom, appears.
