The term AM encompasses many technologies including subsets like 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping (RP), Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM), layered manufacturing and additive fabrication. AM is now being used to fabricate metallic end-use products in aircraft, railway and automotive.

 

The SLM-XL project is about the development of a machine for AM of larger size metallic parts using a specific technology – SLM – designed to use a high power-density laser to melt and fuse metallic powders together and deliver a 3D solid part. The project is led by ADIRA, and MCG participates as a specifying partner and technology adopter.
