MCG R&D: ModSeat project in full phase of functional tests and improvements
The official presentation at InnoTrans 2018 of the first ModSeat prototype, the innovative, modular, versatile and customizable seat for trains that the MCG R&D team is developing, was a milestone in the life of the project. The consortium responsible for the development of the project decided to introduce improvements in the prototype already created, namely in terms of ergonomics and passenger comfort in general.
These changes are essentially based on adjustments to the foam forms and cover type used, as well as at certain points of their construction and finish. Small details related to the mechanical components and to the reclining movement will also be corrected.
After these technical improvements, resulting from the functional tests according to the anthropometric characteristics of the passengers, the second ModSeat prototype will be produced in May, closing the development and protyping phase.
The final and public presentation of the project will happen this summer, as originally planned.
The ModSeat consortium is composed of MCG and four other entities with equal importance in the project: Instituto Superior Técnico, Almadesign, a company in the area of industrial design, SETsa – Sociedade de Engenharia e Transformação SA and ERT, a multinational of the automotive supply chain with industrial facilities in Portugal, Czech Republic and Romania.
