Hi-rEV – The Future Starts Here

Preparing the automotive industry for the future.

A mobilizing agenda composed of 22 companies, entities, and associations aims to help industries that produce components for combustion vehicles make the transition to producing components for electric vehicles.

Presentation

The Hi-rEV is a mobilizing agenda for the development, testing, and demonstration of a new generation of technologies, processes, and products that will enable a new positioning of the national automotive cluster in the global value chains of the car of the future.

Presentation Event

Recovery of the Automotive Components Sector

January 18th 2023, Casa da Música, Porto

With the presence of MCG, represented by Engineer Carlos Saraiva, MCG Automotive General Manager, speaking about digitization in the automotive components industry: robotization, automation, machine learning…

Goals

To position the national automotive cluster in the global value chains of the car of the future by mobilizing the industry around the development, testing, and demonstration of new technologies, processes, and next-generation products.

MCG Contribution

Additional Information

New concepts, forms, and energies. By 2035, combustion engines will no longer be produced in Europe, which will mean changes in the value chain that began with the production of the Ford Model T.

The goals for the energy transition pose new challenges to companies producing components, pulling them to readapt their production structure, using different materials, processes, and technologies, which represent disruptive changes in their production structure.

Among the European targets are also measures for new mobility within urban centers, allowing the reduction of traffic and the improvement of air quality within cities, through shared mobility solutions and a change in the paradigm of car use. This creates new opportunities for the development of new, stronger, more durable, and lighter components.

It is in this context that this project is born, aggregating several companies with relevance in the sector, associated with Universities and Technological Institutes and associations to promote cooperative activities in exploring the new opportunities already existing in the emerging markets of electric mobility and hydrogen.

This project represents an investment of €50M for digital and energy transformation that will generate +€163M in business volume, 154 new jobs, of which 35% are highly qualified labor, and €180M in gross added value.
