The room quickly filled up with the 4th-year students of this prestigious engineering course at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, guided by Professor Dr. Paulo Martins, who is the coordinator of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and researcher at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at this university.
The motivation was clear: a team from MCG’s Engineering department was preparing to present a Masterclass in the development and production of molds/tools for stamping car parts, a type of practical class that aims to complement the syllabus that is taught and transmitted in this course to future engineers who attend.
In this specific case, the Masterclass showed the class how MCG has been a specialist in the development and production of molds, tools, and systems for the stamping of metal components for automobiles for over 72 years. The case studies presented by MCG engineers, together with Prof. Dr. Paulo Martins, an international reference in this area, are the perfect complement to the very practical teachings transmitted in this engineering course.
This is an initiative that takes place several times during each academic year, in different areas of engineering applied to the automotive industry, and which increasingly reinforces the strong relationship that has existed between MCG and the Mechanical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico for more than 30 years. MCG is also the sponsor of the Nucleus of Workshops existing at this university in mechanical engineering.
