Although quite young when he arrived at MCG, Manuel Vicente first worked with sheet metal.

Over the years, taking advantage of the professional development opportunities within the company, he progressed to specialize as a technician in the production and maintenance of stamping molds where he currently works as a Team Leader.

Proudly sharing some details about his day-to-day life at the company, including overcoming challenges in his work, he reinforces that “opportunities exist for those who want to progress in their careers”.

Evolution at MCG

“After joining MCG at age 16 to work as a sheet metal worker, I left for military service at 20. I returned at age 25 as a spot welder and later had the opportunity to become a mold tool maker.

I first held this position in the older MCG facility but relocated to this newer facility when it opened. Later, I advanced to tool maintenance, where I currently work as a team leader”.

Constant challenge

“Everything I’ve done here at Manuel da Graça [MCG] has challenged me, starting at a young age as a metalworker, returning to welding, and finally becoming a mold tool maker.

Perhaps that tested me most of all – learning the profession of mold tool makers – from those with many years of experience.

I could say that working as a team leader has also presented challenges, but in reality, because I enjoy performing technical functions, leading the team is simply a continuation of this role”.

Problem-solving

“This is a very dynamic job; it is never the same. Every day presents new things to do, new challenges, and problems to solve in mold maintenance. Production has to stop while we look for solutions, interrupting production.

Our work is important because we cannot deliver parts to our customers if we cannot resolve these situations. The presses cannot be stopped for long”.

Learn to evolve

“In this business, we learn daily as new situations appear that have never happened before, in which case we have to learn something new. The company itself allows us to learn and progress.

I, myself, am an example of this because MCG allowed me to learn a new profession. Opportunities always exist for those who want to learn new roles at MCG”.

Good relationships

“Occasionally, the demands of the work lead to disagreements, but this does not prevent anyone from having good relationships. In my case, I can say that I have real friends at MCG”.
